Dieline mention of La Croix project
Well schucks. Nice to get a little mention on the Dieline. Great blog about packaging design. You can see the full post here.

Tis the season for gifting.
I’m not a big “stuff” person. I mean, I like looking at cool stuff but not owning, buying it. I like getting it for others, but even then I feel like a lot of my friends/family have the same position on “stuff” I do. As the news would tell me, myself and my friends are clearly in the minority. Holiday shopping is up up up! This could quickly digress into a soapbox-ish type rant about how I hate shopping and whatever… which is actually not my intent. Despite not being a shopper, I have seen some pretty cool gift ideas out there that I thought were worth sharing. So if you have gifting to do maybe this gives you some ideas.
Custom conductor stamp
How cool is this? A conductor stamp you can add your own art, logo message what-have-you and carry it around stamping to your hearts content! I really want to get this for someone, the trick if finding the someone that would appreciate it the most. (via Better Living through Design)

The monocle
I saw one a few years ago and still love the idea of a monocle for reading or whatever. Nerdtastic fun

Zippo hand warmer
Chicago = cold. This is a pretty nice practical gift for this time of year. Although not like a “sexy” gift or anything its practical and uncommon and will make the person you give it to thankyou daily while waiting for the bus/train/car to warm up…

The folding Uke
I have tried to teach myself the uke this year (perhaps failing since I only have 3 chords down) But for the serious player out there this seems like such a cute gift.

Ceramic Pig Speaker
Picture says it all. This is awesome.

I wish Jon Burgerman would pimp my ride
I love Jon Burgerman – in fact I have a lovely illustration he did on an envelope hanging on my wall. He did this awesome illustration on a car – which you can read all about here. I wish I would walk to my car and be surprised to find it drawn on like this.

Chicago Creative Mornings with Simple Scott
Just got back from yet another killer talk from creative mornings. Although I find it difficult to be that “up” that early in the morning two cups of joe and some inspiring design talk was a lovely way to wake up.
If you are in one of the cities with a creative morning (or if you’re not you should could start one!) I highly recommend trying to attend a session. It’s a great way to meet new people or meet people you may only know by interweb handle.
The best part is all the talks get posted online so even if you can’t be there in person, you can still benefit from the inspiring talks and discussions.

LaCroix… I’m talkin’ to you
Obsessed? Me? maybe a little. As I have posted about before, I’ve been designing an ongoing love letter to La Croix water, sketching ideas and thoughts for how they could update their packaging and overal brand to better reflect their awesome product. Today I saw this redesign for cocolino and thought about them again. A smart design using a lot of the naked can color in a smart way to represent “natural.”
You can check out the full post about cocolino here on the Dieline. And of course incase you don’t want to dig through the like ten blog posts I have here, here’s a quick link to my La Croix personal project.

Please Post Bills
Please Post Bills: A art tribute to a comedic legend.
This is an amazing collection of unique pieces and screen prints all in tribute to Bill Murray. Here is a few I found interesting. But definitely go check out the whole collection – or if you are in California – go see it in person at the 1988 gallery.

Burger king goes for more global consistency
King of Brand Consistency
So maybe I am a little slow on this one, but I ran across this fellow David Iglesia’s book and was really impressed with the BK work. Having worked with a few global brands with extremely diverse businesses across the globe I wonder how difficult this engagement must have been. Especially given the franchise model of Burger King I can’t imagine it was an easy feat to roll out. Despite how complex it probably was, the result is a really nice system of elements and some really fun illustrations that communicate a lot with very little words.

Beautious illustrations from Brooke Weeber
Beautiful illustrations from Brooke Weeber
These illustrations are just lovely, and so is the rest of her work. I recently read a little about her journey through the country from west to east coast and how that informed her work. (which you can read and see more lovely images on cool hunting)
After reading that post, be sure to check out her site for more beautiful work. I just love the combination of black ink and really atmospheric uses of watercolor beneath. Beautiful style and definitely one of those artists I will be keeping my eye on!
